Messi’s 2022 World Cup shirts auctioned for $7.8m
December 15 – Lionel Messi’s set of six match-worn shirts form the 2022 FIFA World Cup has sold for a record-breaking $7.8 million at an auction hosted by Sotheby’s in New York.
The staggering price acheived marks the collection as the most valuable item of sports memorabilia sold at auction this year.
It also set a new record for Messi memorabilia by a significant margin, overtaking the $450,000 sale of his El Clasico 2017 jersey which he famously held aloft after scoring the winning goal late in the game.
