NFL Fines Browns’ Myles Garrett for Public Criticism of Officials

0

The NFL has fined Browns defensive end Myles Garrett $25,000 for publicly criticizing game officials after Sunday’s win over the Jaguars, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Saturday morning.

Garrett said the officiating crew made “horrible” calls and added that the league should hold officials “accountable” when they make mistakes.

“Officiating was a travesty today,” Garrett said after the game. “[The referees] need to be under the same microscope we are every single play.”

Garrett did not specify exactly which calls or non-calls he disputed, but he clearly felt there were enough mistakes to speak up about it to the media.

During the game, officials called penalties relatively evenly, as the Browns were assessed eight penalties and the Jaguars were assessed seven. However, Cleveland had 75 penalty yards in the game while Jacksonville had just 40.

The Browns (8–5) host the Bears (5–8) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
