Report: Two London clubs ready to battle Spurs for Bundesliga defender
Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Chelsea and West Ham United are set to battle Tottenham Hotspur for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah.
Tah has been a mainstay in the Leverkusen backline for the best part of a decade and has been one of the most consistent centre-backs on show in the Bundesliga for quite a while.
A couple of days ago, Kicker revealed that the 27-year-old, who has 18 months left on his contract at Bay Arena, had emerged as a target for Tottenham.
The outlet added that the German international was keen on making a move to the Premier League and that the defender has a release clause of €18m (£15.4m) in his contract, which could be activated next summer.
However, it was explained that Xabi Alonso’s men do not want to lose such an important player mid-way into the season.
Spurs have competition for Jonathan Tah
Jacobs has now confirmed that Tottenham are indeed keeping a close eye on Tah ahead of the January transfer window.
However, he revealed they are far from the only ones who admire the Leverkusen star, who is also on the radars of the Blues and the Hammers.
The journalist told CaughtOffside: “Tah has been looked at by Chelsea, who want a centre-back, Spurs and West Ham, with the latter also admiring Hincapie.”
Spurs Web Opinion
With Leverkusen looking set to sustain a title challenge this season and looking like one of the favourites to win the Europa League, I would be quite surprised if they sold any of their key players in January.
