Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
Boys basketball
Marriotts Ridge 80, Chesapeake Science Point 58: Marriotts Ridge’s Jack Bonner led all scores with 30 points. Res Whitaker had 19 (this should be Restia) points and Rahul Jampan scored 11. For Chesapeake Science Point, Salah Mason scored 21 points and Oluwagbotemi Ogungbile had 13 points.
Long Reach 58, Milford Mill 52: Jayden Saunders erupted for a season-high 32 points in the win. Both Junior Nunez and RJ Barnes each chipped in 10 points in the win.
Aberdeen 65, Harford Tech 44: For Aberdeen, Darion Parris who led with 23 points and five rebounds. Justin Franklin added 13. Austin Carter had 11 and six assists. Eric Macharia scored 20 points for the host Cobras.
Joppatowne 88, Bo Manor 48: Kishann Smith scored a game-high 32 points to lead the visiting Mariners over the Eagles. Smith also hauled in 11 rebounds. Joppatowne built a 44-24 lead in the first half.
Manchester Valley 65, Liberty 64: Down three with 32 seconds left, Brendan Luddy made a layup, then after teammate Grant Miller forced a turnover, Luddy hit game-winning basket with two seconds left. He scored 13 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter. Carter Strohman added 16 points for the Mavericks. Tristan West had 15 points for the Lions.
Mount Carmel 57, St. Frances 51: Mario Tatum and Junior Mancho each scored 13 points to lead the Cougars (10-2, 4-0 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference Red Division) over the Panthers (4-1, 1-1). Mount Carmel is tied for third in the Baltimore Catholic League with St. Maria Goretti. Tyler Balwdin scored a game-high 17 points for St. Frances. The Cougars travel to Fayetteville, N.C. to face Coastal Christian (N.C.) in the opening round of the Berean Christmas Showcase on Friday. The Panthers face City Saturday at Morgan State.
Girls basketball
Loch Raven 63, Long Reach 36: In the loss, Morgan Enlow led Long Reach with 16 points. Jaiden Bryant contributed 13 and Makayla Liverpool grabbed 12 rebounds.
Poly 49, Forest Park 43, OT: The host Engineers had 35 rebounds and beat the Foresters in overtime. Ariana Makumi had 17 points and Amelia Overton had 11 points, including a 3-pointer late in the game for Poly.
Liberty 57, Manchester Valley 37: Liberty pulled away with 32-12 run over the second and third quarters. Freshman Allison Bald lead the Lions with 17 points, while Ayssa Golombeck and Paige McKnight each scored 13. Kourtney Goff handed out seven assists and Key Vaselaros had five. Reese Kresslein scored 19 for Manchester Valley.
Francis Scott Key 46, Winters Mill 37: After trailing by five at halftime, the Eagles surged ahead in the third quarter then pulled away in the fourth. Drew Watkins led the win with 15 points. Summer Brooks finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three steals. Abby Rieger collected eight steals defensively.
Wrestling
Old Mill 63, Glen Burnie 15: Tristen Sudama (106), Keon Gavin (120), Omar Khan (126), Ruben Macias-Salas (150), Trey Martini (157), Dominick Hurley (165), Noel Norman-Williams (175), Deven Perry (190) and RJ Duncan (285) all collected pins for the Patriots.
