SINGAPORE, 20 December 2023 – The Hana Financial Group Singapore Women’s Open (HFGSWO) will return to Singapore with a bang, boasting more days of world-class golf action from 7-10 March 2024. Hana Financial Group is also returning as the title sponsor for the event, continuing its long tradition of supporting the development of women’s golf in Asia Pacific.
The 1 billion Won (S$1.1 million) tournament is jointly sanctioned by the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) and Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) and will form a part of the Ladies Asian Tour Series. It is also set to be the season opener of the KLPGA Tour while capping a scintillating two weeks of top-notch women’s golf in Singapore.
The renowned Tanah Merah Country Club (TMCC) will again host the event on its championship Tampines Course, where South Korea’s Ji Young Park won the inaugural HFGSWO in 2022, which will this time see four rounds of play – an increase from three rounds previously.
Fans can look forward to seeing at least 102 golfers in action, with top players from countries like Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and South Korea expected to participate. Singapore’s top professionals and amateurs are also set to make their mark on home soil. The full list of players will be announced soon.
SGA president Tan Chong Huat said: “We are delighted to announce that the Hana Financial Group Singapore Women’s Open will return to Singapore next year and take place on the same iconic course as the inaugural edition. With four rounds of golfing action this year, local and regional golf fans can look forward to a thrilling display of golf here. This is also a great opportunity for our local players to test their mettle against some of the best female golfers in the world. The experience is invaluable for our players who can only thrive and continue to improve when they have more playing opportunities. We are extremely grateful to title sponsor Hana Financial Group, the Tanah Merah Country Club and all our partners for their continued support of the event and in promoting women’s sport in the region.”
Ronald Ong, Club President of TMCC, said the Club is honoured and delighted to host the Singapore Women’s Open for the second time following a resounding success in 2022. He added: “TMCC has initiated extensive enhancements to the greens aimed at diversifying pin positions to enhance the course’s playability and challenge. The Club is looking forward to welcoming the women golf professionals in the region and witness some terrific golfing action at our championship-ready Tampines Course. The Tampines Course has already established itself as one of the premier championship courses in Singapore and the region. Hosting the SWO reaffirms the course’s quality, and the Club is excited to present our finest on the global stage.”
Singapore’s Aloysa Atienza, who was named the 2023 SGA Female Golfer of the Year, is thrilled by the prospect of competing against some of the world’s best players on home soil. She said: “I’m definitely excited. It’s always nice to have the opportunity of playing in your national Open. It’s not very often that we get to play professional events in Singapore and with the opportunity to play in the Hana Financial Group Singapore Women’s Open, I believe it’s a good chance for us to put ourselves out there and compete against the region’s best players.”
