Woman shares ‘hack’ to get ‘free Christmas tree’ for most of December but people aren’t happy about it
A MONEY-saving influencer has shared a hack to get a free Christmas tree.
However, some have criticized her method, saying they’re doubtful it would work.
TikTokers Mason and Mai (@savingforboba) share life hacks, money-saving tips, and comedy videos with their 12,400 followers.
In a recent clip, Mai shared her “life hack” for getting a free Christmas tree.
Captioned “getting into the Christmas spirit,” it showed Mai browsing artificial Christmas trees in a store.
She picked up a tree and walked away, box in hand.
The secret was given away by the video’s title, which read: “Life hack: picking up my free Christmas tree thanks to the 30-day return policy.”
The couple intended to purchase the tree, use it, and then return it to the store within 30 days.
This meant that they had the use of a free Christmas tree for most of December, as the purchase price would be refunded.
The hack sparked some disagreement, with commenters criticizing Mai and Mason’s plan.
“Most holiday stuff is final sale. I guess it depends on the store but the ones I worked at, there were no returns,” said one commenter.
Another viewer agreed. “Most places don’t allow these types of items to be returned after Christmas,” they said.
Some questioned if it would be feasible to return the tree once it had been used for a month.
“You can’t get a refund for the tree without the original packaging or the tree in the original condition,” wrote one person.
“As someone who works there, we can tell when people do this. Just depends on which worker you get, as some will care and others won’t,” said another.
Some viewers questioned the need for the hack, confused about why the TikToker couple couldn’t just reuse the same tree year on year.
“Maybe buy it so you don’t have to do this again next year? You can use it for years,” a viewer wrote.
