Five ways to have fun with the family at Christmas without spending a penny
FOR festive laughs, you cannot beat a family game.
You’ll be sure to have hours of entertainment with these free ideas for all ages . . .
NAME GAME: Write down the name of a famous person on a piece of sticky note paper and stick the note to another player’s forehead, who then tries to guess the name they can’t see by asking questions that can only be answered with “yes” or “no”.
The first person to guess their name is the winner.
CHOC-FULL OF FUN: Sarah Ziegel, author of Marching to a Different Beat: A Family’s Journey with Autism, says: “My boys love the chocolate game.
“When you roll a six with a dice, you put on gloves, scarves and a hat and try to eat the chocolate with a knife and fork — until the next person throws a six.”
BLINDINGLY GOOD: Whether you want to pin a tail on the donkey, nose on Rudolph or carrot on the snowman, draw a big picture marking where the missing piece should go.
Then cut out and colour the tail, nose or carrot, add a blob of Blu Tack to it and place it in the blindfolded player’s hand.
Winner places it closest to the correct spot.
MOVE IT: Personal trainer Nicole Chapman loves movement games. She says: “Get everyone to dash off and find something red, a thing that wobbles or anything you want.
“The winner comes back first. A home disco is also a crowd-pleaser.
“Everyone can choose their favourite three songs and let loose. It boosts moods and helps to release family tension.”
ROUND THE TWIST: Gill Erskine of fitness company WildStrong plays Get Down, Get Up.
She says: “Everyone stand in a circle, with a ‘caller’ in the middle. They then give commands like, ‘Everyone down on your tummy and get up again’.
“They can make it harder by saying, ‘Get up with an arm in the air’.
“They then keep increasing the difficulty — until everyone collapses giggling.
