I’m a gypsy and you can always tell us apart due to a key piece of jewellery – country folk wouldn’t be seen dead in it
A GYPSY girl has shared that you can tell her community apart from ‘country people’ because of a certain piece of jewellery that only gypsies wear.
Charlotte Ann shared the revelation via a video posted to her TikTok channel, where she often posts insights into what life is like for gypsies and travellers.
In the video, Charlotte Ann holds up her wrist to display eight gold bangles, adorned with ornate patterns.
She said: “These are gypsy bangles. I’ve never known or seen anyone but a gypsy wear these bangles.”
The TikToker explained that it is tradition in her culture for women to wear expensive gold bangles.
Charlotte Ann said she spent two and a half years saving for the bangles and had to borrow money from a family member to be able to afford them.
She said she got them custom made in Birmingham and said they all have different designs on them.
She added that they are 10mm wide and 9 carat gold.
The gypsy added that she never takes the bangles off and keeps them clean by washing them with washing up liquid.
TikTok users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts on Charlotte Ann’s bangles.
One user said: “I’ve never seen bangles like these before, thanks for sharing the story behind them. They’re beautiful.”
Another user added: “It’s cool to see other culture’s bangles. In Hawaii we call ours Hawaiian gold bracelets and they vary in size. We engrave our Hawaiian name on them.”
A third user said: “My grandmother was Romani, unfortunately we have lost all our heritage. I love listening to you and seeing the things I was only told about.”
