Man United now want to sign striker ‘better than Erling Haaland at almost everything’ in January - report
Manchester United are interested in signing Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee in January, according to German outlet SPORT1.
The Red Devils are struggling in front of goal right now in the Premier League, with just 18 goals to their name in 18 games.
Only Sheffield United have scored fewer goals than Man United in the league, and manager Erik ten Hag is desperate to arrest the situation by signing Zirkzee.
The former Bayern Munich striker has bagged seven goals and two assists in 17 Serie A games this term after a tough campaign which saw him return just two goals in 21 games in 2022-23.
The 22-year-old notched 18 goals in 47 games while in the Belgian Pro League with Anderlecht in 2021-22 and is starting to rediscover that form this term.
It appears Zirkzee has caught the attention of Man United as a result, but they may need to part with around €30 million to have any chance of landing him next month.
Voetbal International journalist Suleyman Ozturk claimed that “he is better than Erling Haaland at almost everything”, insisting “only the monster in him is missing” after scoring on his first start for Bologna last October.
While the Dutchman is not quite on the level of the Manchester City hitman, he has a huge potential and is an excellent passer who is also strong defensively.
Zirkzee loves to dribble and create chances for his teammates by doing layoffs, and he could help improve the Man United attack given his skillset and a keen eye for goals.
The Red Devils have also been linked with VfB Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy, but he prefers a move elsewhere, which has seen the Old Trafford club set sights on Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri.
Zirkzee has also emerged as a target, and landing a quality finisher next month will go a long way in helping Man United get their stuttering campaign back on track.
