The festive get together included performances from stars like Beverley Knight, Freya Ridings, and James Bay.
This year the service focused on the vital importance of early childhood.
It was also a time to thank those who are supporting the very youngest members of our society during those crucial early years, as part of the Shaping Us campaign.
By Kate’s side were Prince William, who gave a bible reading, and their three children George, 10, Charlotte, eight and five-year-old Louis.
Playful Louis was on his best behaviour on Sunday night despite it being just hours before Christmas.
Stealing the hearts of the nation as always, the cute young royal sang Joy to the World with his siblings and sensibly held a candle throughout the service.
And fans of the Firm couldn’t help find notice how his eyes lit up when actor Jim Broadbent read The Father Christmas Letters from J.R.R. Tolkien.
Louis was said to have “Christmas magic in his eyes” as he nudged Kate and whispered “mama” as the note was read out.
