Former KKR Star Seeks Police Help After Ex-Girlfriend Threatens To End Cricketing Career

Bengaluru: Former Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals cricketer, KC Cariappa, has sought help from police after his ex-girlfriend threatened to end his career. According to the 29-year-old cricketer, the woman has also allegedly threatened his family members with dire consequences. Cariappa’s complaint comes a year after the woman had filed a case against him.

Cariappa, who stays in Ramaiah Layout in Nagasandra and is from Kodagu, informed police that he fell in love with a woman but broke up with her because she was addicted to drugs. She was also an alcoholic and promiscuous.

The cricketer also told police that he tried to convince the woman to quit drinking but she didn’t listen. In return, her ex-girlfriend threatened to commit suicide and leave a note naming him. “Based on the complaint filed by Cariappa, we have taken up a case…,” a senior police officer said.

Meanwhile, the woman had filed a complaint against Cariappa with Bagalagunte police on December 31, 2022, claiming he got her pregnant and forcibly fed her abortion tablets. The woman told TOI that Cariappa tried to press down the case and assured her of marriage.

The woman stated she was unaware of the recent developments against her and stated she would fight back. On Saturday, the woman filed another complaint against Cariappa at RT Nagar police station. Known as a mystery spinner, Cariappa rose to fame because of innumerable variations in his bowling skill set and ability to bamboozle batsmen with his spin acumen.

He made his debut with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2015 against RCB and picked up the wicket of AB de Villiers. He played just one game for KKR in that season before being picked up by Punjab Kings in the next season.

In 2019, Cariappa returned to KKR as a replacement for injured Shivam Mavi. KKR released him ahead of 2020 auction. In 2021, Cariappa was bought by the Rajasthan Royals. He also made his List A debut in 2021 for Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
