Alarming surge in Pakistan’s suicide attacks

A research center in Islamabad has reported a 93% increase in suicide attacks in Pakistan.

The findings of this center indicate that at least 329 people have been killed in suicide attacks in Pakistan in the year 2023.

The Pakistan Institute of Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) published a report on Monday, December 25th, stating that the country has witnessed the highest number of suicide attacks since 2014 in the year 2023.

According to the center’s findings, in 2023, at least 29 major suicide attacks were organized and executed in various regions of the country, resulting in at least 329 deaths and 582 injuries.

The Pakistan Institute of Conflict and Security Studies compared its findings from 2023 with reports from previous years, noting a 93% increase in suicide attacks in Pakistan.

This figure is described as unprecedented compared to the years following 2014. The primary victims of these attacks have been reported to be the Pakistani security forces, who have been the main targets of many suicide attacks.

It is mentioned that according to another study by this institution, Pakistan has faced an unprecedented level of insecurity since the rise of the Taliban.

The surge in suicide attacks and the resulting casualties highlight a significant escalation in violence and instability within the country, posing serious challenges to Pakistan’s security and policy measures.
