'Weak and feeble man': Three ex-Trump staffers fear second term would mean democracy's end

Three ex-Trump White House staffers fear a second term for the MAGA president could do indelible harm to the country.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, Cassidy Hutchinson, and Sarah Matthews spoke about how dystopian the country could become if Trump notched the nomination and defeated Biden come November 2024.

"Fundamentally, a second Trump term could mean the end of American democracy as we know it, and I don't say that lightly," Griffin told ABC News' "This Week" co-anchor Jonathan Karl. "We all witnessed him trying to steal a democratic election before and go to historic and unconstitutional lengths to do so."

Trump 2.0 would essentially be untethered and unwilling to compromise.

"And that just shows that he's willing to basically break every barrier to get into power and to stay into power," said the former communications director in the Trump White House until resigning after the election loss. "But also, I'm very concerned about what the term would actually look like."

Matthews, who worked as deputy press secretary for the Donald Trump administration, said there's not much guesswork involved in predicting another Trump presidency.

"We don't need to speculate what a second Trump term would look like because we already saw it play out," she said in the interview. "To this day, he still doubles down on the fact that he thinks that the election was stolen and fraudulent. And then his rhetoric has just gotten increasingly erratic.

"I mean, he has literally called for things like doing away with parts of the Constitution, wanting to weaponize the DOJ to enact revenge on his political enemies."

As for Hutchinson, who has become an unflappable critic of Trump's after she testified before the Jan. 6 Committee, weighed in on Trump's doubling down on wielding his presidential powers like a dictator if he gets reelected in 2024.

She said, "The fact that he feels that he needs to lean into being a dictator alone shows that he is a weak and feeble man who has no sense of character and integrity and has no sense of leadership."
