'Self-serving and dangerous': Marco Rubio slammed for complaining about Trump ballot bans
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) is not happy about the moves by Colorado and Maine to disqualify former President Donald Trump from the primary ballot under the Insurrection Clause of the 14th Amendment. And he took to social media to express his feelings.
"If Dems are so confident about the Biden record why do they keep pushing partisan hacks like the un-elected Secretary of State in Maine to kick Trump off the ballot?" posted Rubio, who once ran against Trump in a bitter primary fight in 2016.
But commenters on the site were less than impressed with Rubio running interference for the former president.
"How can you possible support Trump after what he did?" wrote author Karen Piper. "Power. That's why. It's self-serving and dangerous for America. Trump isn't the problem. It's the Republicans who support him who are."
"I know rule of law isn’t really a thing for you when it comes to trump, but if the first and second amendments are a thing, so is the 14th," wrote Lori Nalette. "This isn’t a political game. It’s the rule of law. Sit your GOP partisan hack ass down. The adults are working."
"He violated the Constitution you p--dejo," wrote one account calling itself "Dark Brandon Let's Finish The Job." "Why do Republicans not care about the Constitution anymore?"
Podcaster JoJoFromJerz reminded Rubio of a quote of his from 2016, when he was running against the former president: “You have all kinds of people that are lifelong conservatives, or at least claim to be, who don’t seem to care that Donald Trump has never been and is not now a conservative on principles,” he said. “And they’ve staked their reputation on their support of him.”
Former AV Club writer Dennis Perkins had a simple message for Rubio: "Shut your irrelevant wee traitorous yapper."
