Sports Briefs: Stallone, Falcons target win at Bambauer
Charles Williams Jr. turned in another showcase performance at the Bambauer Tournament, with 37 points to lead host Marin Catholic past Martin Luther King, 62-55, Friday. Williams added eight rebounds and four steals to his line. Kelly Storms and Henry Dibble helped power a Wildcats rally during the win.
Marin Catholic is scheduled to challenge Montgomery for fifth place on Saturday at 5 p.m.
• Dante Stallone jumpstarted the Peregrine Falcons and Archie Williams drove to an 84-63 victory over Heritage in Friday’s boys basketball consolation round at the Bambauer Tournament, hosted by Marin Catholic.
Stallone hit three of his four 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with 16 points and three steals. Archie Williams tallied 12 3-pointers during the game. Brian Wright’s 21 points and 12 rebounds paced Archie Williams. Julian Nichol celebrated his 18th birthday with 14 points, including eight consecutive points in the fourth quarter.
Grady Stewart bolstered the Falcons with eight assists and Owen Bugas dished out four assists.
The Falcons are scheduled to play Woodside Priory in the 13th-place game at 11 a.m. Saturday.
In other tournament games Friday, St. Ignatius beat Miramonte, 72-52, Woodside Priory defeated Mills, 67-54, Urban powered past Vintage, 50-32, Montgomery beat Ygnacio Valley, 61-50, and Lincoln edged Central Catholic, 65-64.
• Jase Butler scored 19 points and Joaquin Aguillon added 16 points as the Branson School defeated Campbell Hall, 77-71, Friday in the Damien Classic. Semetri Carr tallied 14 points and seven assists, with DJ Armstrong throwing in 11 points as the Bulls advanced to Saturday’s consolation championship against Windward in the Platinum Division.
• Redwood defeated Curtis, 69-60, in the Damien Classic’s Gold Division on Friday.
• Terra Linda defeated Churchill County of Fallon, Nevada, 67-47, on Friday in the Fremont Tournament. The Trojans (8-5) wrap up tournament play on Saturday.
• San Domenico allowed just eight points in the first half and defeated Redwood Christian, 68-33, Friday. Drew Morehouse led the Panthers with 21 and Kris Jakstas chipped in 15 points.
• St. Vincent de Paul defeated Millenium, 54-29, to remain undefeated and advance to Saturday’s championship game in the Waterford Winter Classic. Sebastian Andrade led the Mustangs (14-0) with 16 points. while Cole Williams and Brett Ghisletta scored 11 points each.
Girls basketball
Juniors Amya Sims and Quincy Dean took the spotlight in San Marin’s 48-34 victory over Castro Valley on Friday at the West Coast Jamboree.
Sims led the Mustangs (8-4) with 10 points and six rebounds, while Dean controlled the post with 11 rebounds, four steals and six points. Abby Bartholo added eight points and eight rebounds, and Kendall Bayer and Angela Stickle chipped in with seven points each.
• Kitty White and Ru Todd both scored in double figures as Redwood beat Arcata, 38-34, in the Ivory Division semifinals at the West Coast Jamboree on Friday. White led the Giants with 13 points, to go with five rebounds and four blocks. Todd finished with 12 points and two assists, while junior Maya Saibel tallied seven points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Freshman Hindi Copeland in her first start added seven rebounds and four blocks.
• Avery Myerberg scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but the Branson School fell to Watsonville, 39-33, Friday in the Jade Division of the West Coast Jamboree. Paige Macy pulled down nine rebounds.
• Marin Catholic defeated Antelope, 52-46, in the Emerald Division of the West Coast Jamboree. The Wildcats are scheduled to face McClatchy on Saturday.
• San Marin defeated Castro Valley, 46-34, in the Jade Division of the West Coast Jamboree. The Mustangs are scheduled to face Watsonville at noon, Saturday, at College Park High.
• Tam defeated Kimball, 53-49, Friday in the Sapphire Division of the West Coast Jamboree.
• San Domenico beat Saguaro High, 66-42, in the SoCal Holiday Classic on Friday. The Panthers are 1-2 in the tournament, heading into Saturday’s game with Rancho Christian at 1:30 p.m.
