Afghanistan wins by 72 runs in first T20I against UAE
On Friday, Afghanistan secured a 72-run win against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the first match of their T20I series held in Sharjah.
After being sent into bat, Afghanistan compiled a strong total of 203-3 in their 20 overs, establishing a challenging target for the host team.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz hit his first T20I century, propelling Afghanistan to a score of 203 and a subsequent 72-run victory over the UAE in Sharjah. The UAE’s early collapse to 56 for 4 hampered their chase.
Gurbaz’s explosive 100 off 52 balls, featuring seven fours and sixes, anchored a 137-run second-wicket partnership with stand-in captain Ibrahim Zadran, propelling their team’s dominant performance.
Supporting Gurbaz, Captain Ibrahim Zadran played a valuable innings, scoring 59 off 43 balls to propel Afghanistan’s total further.
In response, the UAE scored 131-4 in their 20 overs, falling short of the target by a significant margin.
Fazalhaq Farooqi led the bowling attack for Afghanistan, securing two wickets, while Naveen-ul-Haq and Noor Ahmad chipped in with a wicket each.
The teams are scheduled to face off again in their second T20I on Sunday, promising another exciting match.
