Top-10 WBSC Baseball World Cup Plays of the Year: No. 2 Choongheon Lee (Korea)

Welcome back to the Top-10 WBSC Baseball Plays of the Year, a review of the best 10 plays in the WBSC Baseball World Cups in 2023. At No. 2, Korean centre fielder Choongheon Lee made the best play of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan.

It was the Bronze Medal Game between Korea and USA. Both teams were tied in third place in the Super Round along with Puerto Rico with a 2-3 record, but the tie-break rule allowed them to play for the bronze medal on the final day of the tournament.

In the bottom of the fourth, with Korea leading 2-0, Derek Curiel led off for USA and sent the first pitch of the inning deep into centre field. However, Lee made a sensational catch going full extension to rob Curiel of an extra-base hit. 

This play helped Korean pitching star Taekyeon Kim to pitch a two-hit complete game shutout and lead Korea to the bronze medal.
