I went dumpster diving in B&M’s bins and found £200 of items including brand new mirrors, kettles and kid’s toys
One man is on a mission to save thousands of items that are heading for landfill.
Known as @dumpsterdivinguk1 on TikTok and YouTube, he travels around his local area, scouring bins.
In a recent video, he headed to a B&M where he recorded what he found.
He began: “Here we are at B&M,” before picking up a box with a picture of a mirror.
“Look at that!” He remarked before revealing it’s “an LED mirror”.
Granted the box was a little wet and wonky, but the mirror inside was in great condition.
The Hollywood LED Table Mirror is currently priced at £18 online.
It features “LED lights to illuminate your features, create the perfect makeup look or see what you look like under the bright lights and cameras”.
Next to be pulled out from the piles of rubbish was a kettle.
It was the Classic Glass Kettle by the brand Russell Hobbs and is worth £30.
The man commented: “Nice, it’s an LED kettle,” as he took a look inside the box to check the condition of the item.
In another box, he found “cyborg fighting robots” which were the Remote Control Cyborg Slam Battle Bots that B&M sells for £15, but are now £7 in the sale, in perfect condition.
He also pulled out a Goodman’s three-in-one charging stand that range from £20 to £30 online at B&M.
Another two mirrors were found, and then he pulled out a massive box that contained a 6ft Blossom Christmas Tree inside with a sticker showing it was priced at £60.
He moved brand-new lampshades out of the way to pull out a drinks trolley box.
It was B&M’s Deco Glamour Drinks Trolley in Gold which is priced at £20 but currently on sale for £17.
The box was open, and some of the parts had come out, but it was in great condition.
In this one video, he had pulled out items that were worth £199 in total.
As for what the man does with all the items he finds, someone asked him in the comments, and he replied: “Donate mostly.”
Another person asked: “Where do you find these bins? Are they at the back of shops?” To which the dumpster diver replied: “Mostly.”
Is dumpster diving legal?
According to Woodford Recycling, “Dumpster diving is technically legal in the UK, but there are some things to consider”.
It continues: “If the bin is on private property, you could be arrested for trespassing.
“If the owner only placed items in their bin temporarily, for whatever reason, you may not be entitled to take them, so it may be wise to seek their consent before helping yourself to their rubbish.”
