I’m a mom of 4 – my 7 golden rules will save you hours on laundry, it’ll be your easiest household task
A SAVVY mom has revealed how to save time on laundry when you have a large family.
She claimed to be saving hours by following seven golden rules that make the process of washing clothes easy.
Shannon (@shannonvanfleet) has garnered over 5,000 followers on TikTok, where she gives a glimpse into her busy life as a mom of four.
She took to the social media platform to share hacks that have helped her to spend less time doing the laundry.
“If you wanna save hours on laundry and make it the easiest out of all the household tasks then follow these seven golden rules for efficiency and watch your life change,” she said.
“Rule number one, no communal laundry. Everyone gets their own basket in their own room.
“After a shower, you don’t throw your clothes in the bathroom hamper.
“You take them back to your room. The bathroom laundry is for towels only.
“This will be your biggest time saver.
“It basically completely eliminates sorting on the front end and the back end.”
Shannon showed herself sorting and folding freshly washed laundry as she continued to list the tips she swears by.
“Rule number two, everyone gets their own dedicated day,” she said.
“I try and make it cute and easy to remember so Sunday is son day, Millie is Monday, towels are Tuesday etc.
“We are about to be a family of six so on the seventh day I’ll do the sheets and towels.
“Some days I will do two loads like for towels, I do one for bath towels and one for cleaning towels.
“Rule number three, for our everyday life clothes I don’t sort by really anything. I use a color catcher and cool water.
“We really don’t buy any clothes that require special care so I just do one person’s clothes all in one load.
“Rule number four, fold the laundry in the room it goes in.
“This doesn’t seem like an important one but you are so much more likely to actually put it away when you are already in the room.
“Versus putting all the folded laundry back into the basket and simply dropping it off to put away later.
“Rule number five, fold from most recognizable items down.
“For me, that’s folding all the jeans at once because they just stand out of the pile and I can grab them quickly. Then sweatpants, hang up clothes.
“This will go so much faster than just picking up one random item at a time.
“I also finished the fold on the pile and then all you’re left with at the end is socks and a few random items I accidentally got mixed in, which happens.
“Rule number six, if you only buy the same kind of socks you don’t waste time matching them.
“Millie is the only one I break this rule for.
“Rule number seven is when you put the items away, stack them in order of your drawers.
“I save the hang up clothes for the end and it only takes maybe five minutes to gather the laundry and start the load.
“Five minutes to switch it and 10 minutes to put it away, which is only 20 minutes of active working time when doing laundry this way, which is pretty good.”
The mom left her followers surprised after revealing that she mixed colors and whites in the wash using a color catcher sheet.
“It takes about a week to get into the rhythm of it and get caught up while integrating a new schedule, but it’s life-changing!” she said.
Hundreds of people liked the video and took to the comment section thanking her for the time-saving tips.
“Perfect love it,” one person wrote.
“Trying this. Only I need to get caught up first. I’m sooo overwhelmed by laundry every week,” another said.
