ACC Roundup - UNC, Clemson, Miami Roll
An easy night for ACC teams
We’re a little bit behind this week as you may have gathered, so let’s catch up on Friday night’s ACC Action: UNC beat Charleston Southern 105-60, Clemson zapped Radford 93-58 and Miami blew out Northern Florida 95-55.
RJ Davis led the team in scoring again but with much less of a percentage of the team’s shots, taking just 13 of 73. Armando Bacot was again less than overwhelming, hitting 5-6 and grabbing 12 boards, all well below his historical level, but then again he only played 20 minutes.
Jalen Washington may have had his best game with 17 points and seven rebounds. Seth Trimble also came off the bench for 12 points.
UNC shot 56.2 percent overall and 42.3 percent on threes.
Admittedly it was an easy opponent but UNC had 20 assists and just five turnovers and looked pretty sharp. It bodes well for the rest of their season.
Did you know that Joe Girard is now in fifth place in ACC history for three point shots?
Didn’t seem like it, but he got there against Bradford, hitting 4-7 from deep and 8-11 overall for 24 points.
Clemson won handily but the story would have been if they had not. PJ Hall scored 17 points but had just three rebounds. Ian Schieffelin had 13 to make up the difference and against Radford it didn't matter: Clemson won the boards 45-13. That’s just a crazy advantage. Not much to say about this one really - it was planned to be a tune-up and that’s what it was.
Norchad Omier had 27 points and 10 boards against North Florida and Matthew Cleveland added 15 points and 10 boards. It was a typical Jim Larranaga team performance - lots of running and scoring. Bensley Joseph had another double-double for Miami with 11 points and 10 boards.
Nijel Pack sat this one out with a back issue and Wooga Poplar left with an ankle injury. Still didn't matter. Miami rolled.
It’s a busy Saturday as Pitt visits Syracuse, Virginia heads to South Bend to torment Micah Shrewsberry, Lipscomb pops in on Florida State and Virginia Tech checks in at the Joel to play the Deacons.
