YouTube Gold: Jeff Mullins In His All-Star Debut
One of Duke’s early greats had a very solid NBA career
Jeff Mullins was the first Blue Devil to make an NBA All-Star team, back in 1969. He came out of Lexington, Kentucky, and was one of two Lexington kids to attend Duke (Vince Taylor was the other).
He had a brilliant career at Duke, helping lead the Blue Devils to the 1963 and 1964 Final Fours before going off to Tokyo as part of the 1964 Olympic team.
Mullins was originally drafted by the St. Louis Hawks before being traded to the Warriors. After his All-Star debut, he made the grade the next two years and was part of Golden State’s beautiful championship team in 1975.
After the following season, Mullins retired with 13,017 career points.
He then went on to an underrated career as head coach of the Charlotte 49ers, where he had a 10-year career as Charlotte moved through three conferences, finishing with a 182-142 career record.
Aside from all of that, he’s a very good man.
