Rosalia Laces Up ‘Ugly’ Nike x Martine Rose Shox MR4 Sneakers While in New York
Rosalia was photographed while out in New York on Thursday, braving the cold for a shopping trip.
The “Con Altura” songstress was outfitted in a pair of white and silver Nike sneakers in collaboration with British-Jamaican designer Martine Rose. The Shox MR4 sneaker was comprised of white uppers crafted of mixed leather and mesh accompanied by low heel counters, metallic silver accents, white lace-up closures, black Nike swoosh detailing on the sides and squared-off toes that aimed at resembling mules.
Unique hollow columns situated at the midsole acted to offer Rosalia extra cushion and support. The collaborative footwear is increasingly popular, specifically in the “Safety Orange,” “Scuba Blue” and “Black Comet Red” colorways. The silhouette falls under the ever-popular “ugly” shoe trend that swept the fashion and footwear landscapes in 2023.
Many footwear silhouettes can fall under the category of ugly shoes, a trend that, despite its name, has become associated with some of the most on-trend celebrities and fashion influencers. This trend is spoken in the same breath as popular brand names including Crocs, Ugg, Balenciaga, Birkenstock, Maison Margiela, Subu, Lusso Cloud, Clarks, Dr. Martens and Adidas, just to name a few.
Accompanying her Nike kicks, Rosalia was outfitted in an oversized black wool jacket worn overtop a light blue button-down. On the bottom, the hitmaker wore black and white sweats featuring striping down the sides.
The “Con Altura” singer’s shoe style, much like her wardrobe, has a range that’s edgy and eclectic. Rosalía often wears luxury labels, including Prada, Louis Vuitton and Balmain, as well as independent brands like Sinead Gorey, Pushbutton and Feng Chen Wang. On the footwear front, she can regularly be seen in platform boots by Versace, Haiki 851 and Rick Owens. However, on more casual occasions, she dons colorful Nike and Air Jordan sneakers, Eytys slides and platform Crocs clogs.
