Galaxy trades Tyler Boyd to Nashville SC
Galaxy receives two international roster slots and $150,000 in General Allocation Money for the midfielder, who signs a multi-year contract with his new club
The Galaxy traded midfielder Tyler Boyd to Nashville SC for two international roster slots and $150,000 in General Allocation Money on Saturday.
One of the roster slots is for the 2024 season and the other is for 2025. The allocation money will be split between the two seasons.
Also, the Galaxy could receive up to $625,000 “if certain performance metrics are met by Boyd with Nashville.”
“As we continue to improve our roster, with the aim of maintaining roster flexibility, Nashville offered us a deal that accomplishes both of those goals,” Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz said. “We wish Tyler and his family the best as he embarks on a new and exciting chapter in his career.”
Nashville SC announced that they had signed Boyd to a multi-year contract through 2026 with an option for 2027.
Boyd, 29, joined the Galaxy last season on a one-year deal, with a base salary of $275,000, and scored eight goals with five assists in 39 total games. He played in all 34 MLS games.
Earlier this offseason, the Galaxy extended a bona fide offer to Boyd. At the end of the season, Boyd and Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said the sides were talking about extending the New Zealand native’s stay.
“I love this club and I want to stay here,” Boyd said last season. “I’d loved to be here for however many years. It was my dream coming to play here, I specifically chose the Galaxy, I told my agent I wanted to play for the Galaxy, so that’s what we wanted at the start of the season.
“We came here, I had something to prove, but I’m just grateful to be able to play for this club. I don’t take any moment for granted, I don’t take being in this country again for granted, so it’s all a blessing.”
The Galaxy will certainly have a new look next season, with the likes of forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, midfielder Douglas Costa and now Boyd all having departed.
