Sports Briefs: San Marin, MC girls claim Jamboree consolation titles
San Marin won the consolation championship in the West Coast Jamboree’s Jade Division with a 36-27 victory over Watsonville on Saturday. Quincy Dean tallied 11 points and seven rebounds for the Mustangs, who also got 11 points and six rebounds from Abby Bartholo.
Amya Sima and Dean were named to the all-tournament team. The Mustangs rebounded from a first-round loss to American with Friday’s 46-34 win against Castro Valley.
- Izzy McFadden and Cecily Hadd were named to the all-tournament team as Marin Catholic claimed the consolation championship for the West Coast Jamboree’s Emerald Division. The Wildcats, who went 2-1 in the tournament, beat McClatchy, 61-50, on Saturday. Hadd scored a team-high 23 points, while McFadden and Mady Dayton each scored 11 points.
- Tam fell to Northgate, 59-38, in the championship game of the Sapphire Division of the west Coast Jamboree.
- Avery Myerberg put up a double-double, but the Branson School fell to Castro Valley, 60-55, in a consolation round game in the West Coast Jamboree’s Jade Division on Saturday. Myerberg posted 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for her seventh double-double of the season. Senior captain Julia St. John scored a season-high 18 points. Paige Macy added seven points and seven rebounds for the Panthers, who went 0-3 in the tournament, with earlier losses to College Park and Watsonville.
- San Domenico fell to Rancho Christian, 50-38, Saturday in the final round of the SoCal Holiday Classic in San Diego. The Panthers (6-8) are scheduled to open BCL play on Thursday at Urban.
- Marin Academy fell to Justin-Siena, 56-19, in the consolation championship game at the Surf ’N Slam tournament in San Diego on Saturday. The Wildcats went 1-2 in the tournament, with 47-44 consolation round victory over Hockinson on Friday. Marin Academy (8-3) is scheduled to open BCL play on Friday, Jan. 5, against Convent.
Boys basketball
Montgomery controlled the game start to finish in a 60-38 victory over host Marin Catholic to claim fifth place in the Bambauer Tournament on Saturday. Charles Williams, who finished with 11 points, was named to the all-tournament team.
- Archie Williams won its second consolation round game in a row at the Bambauer Classic on Saturday, as four Peregrine Falcons players scored in double figures during a 63-50 victory over Woodside Priory. Owen Bugas paced the Falcons (7-7) with 18 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals. Brian Wright had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
- The Branson School’s rally effort fell short in Saturday’s 70-61 loss to Windward in the Platinum Division consolation championship at the Damien Classic. Redwood lost to Rancho Cucamonga, 65-51, in a Gold Division consolation round game at the Damien Classic.
- All-tournament selection Sebastian Andrade scored a team-high 19 points as St .Vincent de Paul defeated Big Valley Christian, 65-56, to claim the championship in the Waterford Winter Classic on Saturday. Jack Mountanos scored 16 points for the 15-0 Mustangs, who got 13 points from Cole Williams. Josh Malik was named tournament MVP.
- Luke Shapiro scored 16 points for San Rafael in Friday’s 62-50 loss to Elk Grove. Luke Stank added 11 points.
- Novato defeated Rancho Cotate, 59-34, in Saturday’s non-league game.
- Terra Linda defeated Kennedy, 52-47, in the Fremont Tournament on Saturday.
Prep wrestling
Novato senior Ikaika Madayag (5-1) rolled through the competition at the Lou Bronzan Invitational, until he ran into Benicia senior Vicenti Rodarte in the finals of the 144-pound class. Rodarte won a 10-2 major decision over Madayag in the championship.
Redwood junior Alexander Berkowitz (17-5) placed fourth in the 138-pound class after a 6-1 loss to Freedom’s Zach Savage on Saturday. Archie Williams’ John McKenzie (4-20 placed fourth at 150 pounds.
Women’s basketball
Keyonee Neal posted a double-double as Dominican University turned the page on December with a 61-41 victory over host Westmont on Saturday. Neal led the Penguins (10-3, 3-2 PacWest) with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Alaiyah San Juan added 16 points, with four 3-pointers, and six assists.
The Penguins are back home on Thursday against Hawaii Pacific.
