Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC) has announced the launch of the DOGE-1 mission to the Moon aboard a Falcon 9 rocket in the first quarter of 2022. The payload of the mission will be a 40-kilogram cubesat. It will receive a variety of sensors and cameras on its board. Additional payload space will be allocated for digital art objects in the form of plaques provided by GeometricLabs Corporation and Geometric Gaming Corporation.
Note that this is one of the so-called Rideshare missions, so other payloads should appear later. The mission will be managed by the Geometric Space Corporation (GSC) in cooperation with SpaceX.
"By officially concluding a deal with DOGE, Geometric Energy Corporation and SpaceX have strengthened DOGE as the unit of account for the lunar business in the space sector," said Samuel Reid, chief executive Officer of Geometric Energy.
"This mission will demonstrate the use of the doge-1 token cryptocurrency beyond near-Earth orbit and lay the foundation for multi-planetary trading. We are excited to launch DOGE-1 to the moon!" said Tom Ochinero, SpaceX Vice President of Commercial Launches
