Incursions By Unmanned Aircraft Systems On US Southern Border Likely Exceed 1,000 A Month

Eurasia Review

By Matthew Olay

There are likely more than 1,000 incursions by unmanned aircraft systems along the U.S.-Mexico border each month, said the U.S. Northern Command’s top general during testimony Thursday at a Senate Armed Services Committee posture hearing.

“I don’t know the actual number — I don’t think anybody does — but it’s in the thousands,” said Air Force Gen. Gregory M. Guillot in response to one senator’s query.

When asked about the period of time that it takes to reach that number of incursions... Читать дальше...

Ramadan, Syria, Climate Change And Gog-Magog Wars – OpEd

Eurasia Review

Ramadan this year may be more challenging than in years past. In ordinary years, almost one-third of Americans who die; would die from smoking, overeating and drinking, and physical inactivity. The lack of self-restraint so evident in much of modern life leads us first to pleasure-seeking, and then increasingly to self-induced suffering.

Iran’s Take On Democracy – OpEd

Eurasia Review

National elections were held in Iran on March 1.  The results were underwhelming. It took three days for the electoral authorities to count the votes and consider the results.  On March 4 Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi told a news conference in Tehran that of Iran’s 61 million eligible voters, only some 25 million had deigned to participate.  The resultant turnout of 41% would be the lowest ever recorded in post-revolution Iran.

In Emergency Break Glass: The High Atlas Foundation Experience – OpEd

Eurasia Review

In 2019, I embark on a journey through a world covered with glass and sealed in plastic. The aspiration behind UNDER WRAPS, my initial Wheelwright Prize proposal, is to explore the culture and architecture of greenhouses focusing on the spatiality of horticultural operations and the interactions between plants and humans across a spectrum of contexts and cultures. Even though at the time of formulating the proposal, I have an appreciation for the importance of open systems, I am simply hesitant... Читать дальше...

Responsibility Of The Muslim World On Israeli Actions In Gaza? – OpEd

Eurasia Review

Does the Islamic World have any responsibility for the incessant and horrific injustice being committed by Israel towards the Palestinian people?  Is it because Harry Truman not only recognized Israel as an independent country and as such gave cover to Israeli air space during the short war with Egypt when Anwar Sadat could have given a death blow to Israel but for the US cover of Israeli air space?

Critical Race Theory And The Courts: Judicial Injustice – OpEd

Eurasia Review

By Wanjiru Njoya

In her dissenting opinion in the Supreme Court affirmative action case, Justice Ketanji Jackson began by announcing that “gulf-sized race-based gaps exist with respect to the health, wealth, and well-being of American citizens.”

Justice Jackson argues that these race-based gaps are caused by legacies of oppression; in her view, the only question to be debated is how to eliminate those gaps. She considers it to be self-evident that race-based gaps are explained by historical events... Читать дальше...

Robert Hur Testimony Did Not Exonerate Joe Biden – OpEd

Eurasia Review

By Graham J. Noble

Three questions dominated Special Counsel Robert Hur’s March 12 testimony on Capitol Hill regarding his investigation of Joe Biden’s mishandling of classified documents: Were crimes committed – more specifically, was there an intent to commit an act that violates federal law? Why did the special counsel not recommend future criminal charges? Why has former President Donald Trump been indicted for retaining classified documents when neither Biden nor any past presidents ... Читать дальше...

France: Macron Faces Backlash Over U-Turn On Legal Definition Of Rape

Eurasia Review

By Clara Bauer-Babef

(EurActiv) — In a video seen by AFP on Wednesday (13 March), French President Emmanuel Macron said he was in favour of including the notion of consent in the criminal definition of rape – a significant U-turn, given that France opposed the idea in an EU directive in February.

On 8 March, to mark International Women’s Day, Macron met members of the feminist association Choisir la cause des femmes, founded by Gisèle Halimi, an activist on access to abortion in France. Читать дальше...

Unshackling Workers In China’s Solar Supply Chain – Analysis

Eurasia Review

By Joseph Negrine

Opponents of China’s solar manufacturing industry, including US and Germanmanufacturers, believe that human rights are currently at odds with the renewable energy transition. To achieve a just transition, it is imperative for nations to cooperatively protect the wellbeing of affected workers when addressing environmental problems.

Solar energy is critical to the renewable energy transition. China dominates this industry, accounting for over 80 per cent of... Читать дальше...

When Starvation Is A Weapon, The Harvest Is Shame – OpEd

Eurasia Review

In a work entitled “Irish Famine 4,” Palestinian-American journalist and artist Sam Husseini combined grass and paint to commemorate a bitter time in Irish history when starving people died with their mouths stained green because, according to historian Christine Kinealy, their last meal was grass. Shamefully, British occupiers profited from exporting out of Ireland food crops so desperately needed. Over a seven year period, beginning in 1845, one million Irish people died from starvation and related diseases. Читать дальше...

Experts Urge Nigeria To Join BRICS – OpEd

Eurasia Review

Nigeria is considered an economic power in West Africa, and it runs in the third position behind Egypt and South Africa. While expert opinions suggested it qualifies to BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), an association of emerging economies that primarily seeks to promote economic cooperation and development among its members, Nigeria maintains that it can only make such a decision over the next two years.

US’ Gaza Floating Port Proposal Highlights Its Failures – OpEd

Eurasia Review

By Mohamed Chebaro

No ceasefire, no humanitarian truce and not enough aid is trickling through to feed the starving Palestinians. The Israeli war on Gaza continues to show no signs of abating, even for a humanitarian pause on the occasion of the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The UN and aid groups say only a fraction of the supplies needed for Gaza’s 2.4 million people have been allowed in since Israel placed the narrow Mediterranean Strip under near-total siege following the Oct. Читать дальше...
