"According to what was announced, the ship's cargo does not exceed that of one or two trucks, and it will take days to arrive," Salama Marouf, spokesman for the government press office, said in a statement. He said some logistical questions about the operation were unanswered and raised concerns about Israeli inspections. "It is still unknown where it will dock and how it will reach the shores of Gaza," Marouf said. "Moreover, it will be subject to inspection by the occupying army." A former... Читать дальше...

There are now some 500,000 across the country -- more than the 80,000 or so in their native California. Research by University College London (UCL) and published in the Royal Society Open Science journal, found that "the most massive species" of redwood can potentially pull an average of 85 kilograms of carbon from the atmosphere per year. What's included in the new EU law on AI

France24.com (en)

The law, known as the "AI Act", was first proposed in April 2021 by the European Commission, the EU's executive arm. But it was only after Microsoft-funded ChatGPT burst onto the scene in late 2022 that the real AI contest began -- and also the race to regulate. China and the United States last year introduced regulation on AI but the European Union's law is the most comprehensive. The EU will take a staggered approach to applying the law. Outright bans on forms of AI considered highest-risk will kick in later this year... Читать дальше...

Paying for the Gaza war: Israel's Arab citizens hit by budget cuts

France24.com (en)

Israel has been accused of unfairly targeting its Arab population after parliament moved a step closer to passing sweeping budget cuts. While the measures aim to plug the financial hole caused by Israel's war in Gaza, they also mean a string of government programmes created to invest in Arab communities could see their funding slashed by up to 15 percent. Critics say the move may have drastic consequences, as more than 55 percent of Israel's Bedouins live in poverty, and violent crime is on the rise in many Arab-majority cities.
