Geneva's equestrian police unit up and running

The Geneva police force's new equestrian brigade is now operational. The three Franches-Montagnes horses that make up the unit, passed their aptitude tests after a year of training. They were validated by two experienced riders from the Belgian federal police, who specialise in this field, the Geneva cantonal police said on Friday. Swiss unions unhappy about construction worker wages

Almost half of construction workers did not receive a pay increase in 2024. Their wages have even fallen by more than 2%, according to the latest survey by the Unia and Syna unions, published on Friday. Construction workers are therefore "disappointed and angry", representatives of the two unions told the media in Bern. Switzerland not complying with Paris Climate Agreement, says Swiss ECHR judge

According to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Switzerland has not complied with the Paris Climate Agreement. However, the judgement does not only apply to Switzerland, according to Swiss ECHR judge Andreas Zünd. Why Switzerland is not the best at recycling waste

Switzerland has one of the highest municipal waste recycling rates in Europe, at least for aluminum and glass. However, most plastic is burned. A new initiative aims to reverse the trend. Households and small businesses in Switzerland produce about six million tonnes of waste per year. That is 671 kilograms of municipal waste per inhabitant (in 2022), one of the highest rates in the world.
