Bobby James Simmons, a 28-year Toledo police veteran who while on the force received his second master’s degree, and in retirement taught as a substitute and took piano and saxophone lessons, died May 10 in Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania. He was 74.

MILLBURY, Ohio — A  Toledo woman was killed late Tuesday afternoon when the car she drove collided head-on with an SUV after crossing into the opposing lane on State Rt. 51, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

FOSTORIA — Northern Lakes League champion Springfield advanced in a Division I district softball semifinal Tuesday, using a six-run second inning and the solid pitching of sophomore lefty Mady Yackee to beat Three Rivers Athletic Conference foe Clay, 11-1, at Fostoria High School in a game shortened to five innings by mercy rule.
