Richard E. Orgel, who from age 16 made his livelihood on the water — as a ship’s mate, a captain, a pilot — and who sailed aboard the SS Edmund Fitzgerald and wrote a book about its sinking, died Monday at Aspen Grove senior community in Lambertville. He was 96.
