The National Interest

Diplomacy, Asia

Seldom do states receive warning of aggressive intent, but the United States just did.

This month Communist China is holding its annual “two sessions,” during which the members of two main political bodies of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) gather in Beijing to rubber-stamp the new policies and goals set forth by the party.  This year’s agenda is particularly important because the CCP will formalize its next moves to achieve its “second centennial goal,” in essence... The Challenge of Climate Change Migration

The National Interest

Immigration, Americas

As the United States builds a strategy that can address the security implications of climate change migration, it might instead seek to center its policy prescriptions on the most vulnerable in the country.

Over the past decade, an average of 21.5 million people annually have been forced to move due to the impacts of extreme weather. That’s three times as many people as have been affected by conflict... Читать дальше...

Arsenal 2-1 Spurs: Four Tottenham Talking Points

All Action, No Plot

1. The Most Lamela Performance Imaginable If you want to describe the mood at AANP Towers as “sombre” that will be fine with me, because that was pretty rotten stuff. Since the final whistle I have mostly just aimlessly wandered about the place: not as a devastatingly accurate tribute to those in lilywhite today, but […]

Corporate Diversity Skates the Legal Line in a ‘Mea Culpa’ Age

The National Interest

Sarah Perry

Society, Americas

These days, big business is no longer focused on its business. Instead, in the wake of last year’s racial unrest, corporate powerhouses seem more concerned with providing public mea culpas on their historic failure to be sufficiently “woke.”

Amidst the bullish markets of the 1980s, the corporate governance model drove singularly toward profits, without regard for partisanship or pet political causes. While this gave rise to larger-than-life... Читать дальше...

How India’s Ambitious Reforms Have Changed Its Economy

The National Interest

Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself made an impassioned plea for privatization in a speech echoing Milton Friedman by saying, “the government has no business to be in business.”

Over the past few months, the Indian government has made the biggest strides towards the free market since the early 1990s. In the face of a shrinking economy during the coronavirus crisis, the BJP government unveiled sweeping reforms in the agricultural... Читать дальше...

Columbian Missourian: Governments delay access to public records during pandemic

St. Louis Globe-Democrat

As states prepared to reopen their economies following coronavirus shutdowns last spring, The Associated Press asked governors across the U.S. for records that could shed light on how businesses and health officials influenced their decisions. Nine months later, after several more COVID-19 surges and shutdowns, the AP still has not received records from about 20 ...

Leeds United Chat • Money League

Marching On Together

I was pondering in the Chelsea game thread about a managers achievement vs. money spent, so I decided to have a look.

If you divide the total cost of the declared 26 man squads by the number of points each team currently has, you get a £m per point score.

Top of this 'Bang for Bucks' league are Burnley on £2.5m and Leeds second with £3.34m.

Bottom are Arsenal on £11.96m (and that is with them removing Ozil's 42m from the declaration).

Second bottom are Man U on £11.63m (just saying). Читать дальше...
