[Men's Basketball] UCM Sweeps Visiting Arizona Schools
UC Merced won its sixth game in a row and remained perfect in its first three California Pacific Conference contests by downing visiting Park-Gilbert 62-44 on Sunday and completing a sweep of the three conference programs from Arizona. The Bobcats topped Benedictine Mesa 69-54 on Thursday and duplicated that score in Friday's 69-54 win over Embry-Riddle before closing out the opening weekend with a staunch defensive effort against the Buccaneers. Olgierd Dmochewicz hit a jumper on Park's first possession, but two minutes later Kingsley Obiorah hit the second of his two free throws to put UCM up 3-2, and the Bobcats would never surrender that advantage, eventually building that lead to as big as 21. Park tied the game twice—at 16-16 and 20-20—but could never get back in front. Mason Westlake led all scorers with 23 points, connecting on 7-of-12 3-pointers, and Obiorah added 11 points. Park's Zach Lewkowski led the Bucs with 11 points, and Dmochewicz finished with 10.
