New Stand And New Drainage For Spa Francorchamps

0

The next major phase of work at Spa Francorchamps is well underway as the major investment in the circuit and its infrastructure continues.

Work began on October 10 for the construction of the new grandstand and bleachers in front of the endurance pits, along the section of track that connects La Source to L’Eau Rouge.

The grandstand will include 4,104 seats and 40 folding seats for the area dedicated for persons of restricted mobility, with a panoramic view of La Source, the Endurance area and Raidillon.

The bleachers will offer 3,139 seats with the star design incorporating landscape integration and respect for the natural slope of the terrain.

The stands and bleachers could previously accommodate 3,700 people, so it is almost double that will now be available to the public.

The work will be completed by mid-April 2023, bringing the total seating capacity in the stands and stands around the track to 16,000 seats (excluding boxes and the Rallycross stadium).

Amaury Bertholome, Managing Director

“I am delighted to once again be able to offer modernized reception facilities for spectators in the Endurance zone. With the work carried out during the 2022-2023 winter break, the Circuit continues its dynamic of maintaining the tool at the top of its capacities and at a level of world excellence. The facilities in the paddocks are also part of the investment necessary to welcome our organizers of events and sports competitions in optimal conditions.”

Other work is currently underway, which will replace the current drainage in the upper part of the paddocks via the ‘Rohon’ culvert.

The Rohon is a 3rd category watercourse which flows mainly in the open air up to the level of La Source from which it is channeled before being discharged into the Eau Rouge watercourse in the lower part of the paddocks.

Following the repeated episodes of extremely intense rain in recent years (below the paddock tunnel) and the damage caused to the track and the paddocks, work was necessary to secure the Circuit’s infrastructure.

The new channeling standardises the cross-section, slope and direction of flow beneath the circuit infrastructure making it possible to absorb a greater flow (estimated for fifty-year rain) in order to minimize the risks.
