I Don’t Think This Group Of Players – Ex-Top Flight Striker On Rangers Squad

Michael Beale, who previously worked at Rangers as a part of Steven Gerrard’s coaching staff, has been appointed as the successor to Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Van Bronckhorst left the Gers in second place, nine points behind city rivals Celtic, and Beale now faces a difficult task in closing the gap.

Walker is of the view that the new Rangers boss will be welcomed with open arms due to his successful tenure at Ibrox as Gerrard’s first team coach, but believes that Beale needs to establish his influence on the players in the Gers dressing room.

The former Scotland star is also sceptical that Rangers will be able to back Beale in the January transfer window because he believes the current squad lack the necessary quality to close the gap on the league leaders.

“He will be welcomed with open arms”, Walker said on The Go Radio Football Show.

“He was part of a Rangers side that were successful a few years ago, winning the title.

“He was part of the set-up under Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister.

“Slowly but surely, they got the title done.

“He is now the top man and he needs to have the influence on the players that are there.

“It remains to be seen whether Rangers are willing or able to spend in the January window because I do not think this group of players are going to make any inroads into that nine-point gap.

“I will be very surprised if Celtic were to let that lead go.”

Rangers’ first game under Beale will be against Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership next week.
