Meghan Markle Reveals Royal Family's 'Biggest Problem' With Her
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed the royal family’s “biggest problem” with her, after initially being “incredibly impressed” by her.
In Harry & Meghan, their new Netflix docu-series, the first three episodes reveal the beginning of their story together.
At one point, they described the future Duchess of Sussex meeting his family.

“Some of them didn’t quite know what to do with themselves,” Harry shared in the documentary. “They were surprised that a ginger could land such a beautiful woman and such an intelligent woman.”
“The fact that I was dating an American actress was probably what clouded their judgment more than anything else in the beginning,” Harry added. “‘Oh, she’s an American actress, this won’t last.’”
About that being the “biggest problem” she said, “The actress thing was the biggest problem, funny enough. There was a big idea of what that looks like from the UK standpoint, Hollywood, and it was just very easy for them to typecast that.”
About the rampant headlines they eventually made, Harry continued, “What people need to understand is, as far as a lot of the family were concerned, everything that she was being put through, they had been put through as well. So it was almost like a rite of passage. Some of the members of the family were like, ‘But my wife had to go through that, so why should your girlfriend be treated any differently? Why should you get special treatment? Why should she be protected?’ And I said, ‘The difference here is the race element.’” Many believe that Harry is talking about his brother, Prince William, talking about the headlines his now-wife, Kate Middleton, received while they were dating for years before getting engaged.
