Report: Some board members want to sell Spurs-linked midfielder in January
Sport have revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Franck Kessie remains determined to prove himself at Barcelona when the campaign resumes.
Over the past couple of weeks, there has been plenty of speculation about Kessie’s future, with Spurs named as one of the contenders for the midfielder’s signature in January.
AS reported at the start of the month that Antonio Conte’s men were keen on snapping up the Ivorian and that Barca were ready to sell him for just €10m (£8.5m) in January since he arrived on a free transfer in the summer.
Sport reported last week that Tottenham were the frontrunners to sign the Ivorian ahead of both Inter Milan and Juventus, with the North Londoners alleged to have made a loan offer for the player with an option to buy.
The same publication has now offered an update on Kessie’s future, explaining that the midfielder is currently rehabilitating from an injury and is expected to be fit for the derby against Espanyol on December 31.
The report states that the former AC Milan man wants to ‘convince’ Xavi Hernandez that he can be a useful player for the club, and that he is aiming to prove his worth in the game time that he could get in the Spanish Cup and the Europa League.
Sport assert that while Kessie’s ‘dream’ of succeeding in Barcelona ‘remains intact’, some members of the club’s board want to move on the 25-year-old in January.
Spurs Web Opinion
We have seen on many occasions over the past couple of seasons that Barca are not shy of moving players on against their wishes. So, if the Catalan club get a decent offer for Kessie, he could be on his way out of Camp Nou in January.
Unless Barca are extremely desperate to get the 25-year-old’s salary off their wage bill (as they were with Lenglet), one would think that they would only entertain loan offers if they come with an obligation to buy.
