#LAKings Rapid Review: Notes and Highlights from Kings Careless Loss in Columbus (MayorsMano
Following a 6-5 overtime loss in Columbus on Sunday, Kings coach Todd McLellan proclaimed, “Great that we come back, great that we score goals, great that we stick with it. But the carelessness is killing us.”
Even so, all is not lost. McLellan’s club was playing the second game of a back-to-back set and took three of four points on the line this weekend. There were plenty of mental errors in Columbus, yet — as LA’s bench boss noted — the Kings didn’t stop playing and pack it in early, despite going down 2-0 in the first period. They tied it before the midpoint of the game and later trailed 4-2 after 40 minutes. Even so, they again came back to tie it.
Captain Anze Kopitar had his second multiple goal game this month. He also has six goals in his last seven games. This comes on the heels of a tough stretch in November, where he had just a single goal in 11 games. He only had five goals in the first 25, so he’s heating up at a time when the team needs him.
By scoring five goals total, LA remains tied for second in team goals this season (105 GF), trailing only Buffalo (108 GF) — who the Kings will face next.
