The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently launched a book titled: “Living for a Higher Purpose: Inspiring Hope through the Nigerian Public Service”, written by the Executive Secretary, Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, at an event held at the Protea Hotel Hall, CBD Agidingbi, Ikeja

Mr. Governor, who was represented at the launch by the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola said the central theme of his administration is not just political rhetoric, but that the Greater Lagos vision is essentially the compass that drives every decision, policy and intervention that the present administration is involved with while its T.H.E.M.E.S agenda is the vehicle through which the government intends to achieve the vision.

In his words: “My administration is working not only to curb domestic and sexual violence but also to ultimately eliminate it. In the past three years, we have made significant gains in our war against Domestic and Sexual Violence. Institutions have been strengthened to respond appropriately, policies have been formulated and introduced in ensuring that we provide holistic care and support to survivors”.

“We are also doing everything we can to gradually end the culture of impunity as evidenced in the convictions secured by the Ministry of Justice. In simple terms, we are indeed walking the talk”, he said.

According to him, one of the individuals responsible for achieving his vision of a Lagos State free from all forms of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence is the author of the Book: “Living for a Higher Purpose: Inspiring Hope through the Nigerian Public Service”, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi who has demonstrated commitment to ensuring an increase in victim safety and offender accountability.

“The book is about how a young person can thrive in public service. It documents the Author’s experience in birthing an idea, transforming it into reality by determination, empathy for survivors and most importantly, political willpower and support from key government stakeholders and like-minded colleagues who believed and continue to believe in a good cause over the years. The book chronicles how to effect change in society through public service”, Sanwo-Olu said.

Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services at the University of Lagos, who reviewed the 13-Chapter Book, said Lola Vivour-Adeniyi has been consistent and passionate since she met her many years ago.

Reviewing the Book, Professor Atsenuwa said Vivour-Adeniyi referring to herself as a merchant of hope is very apt, adding that the book also takes a reader on a flashback of the genesis of the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency in Lagos State.

In her remarks, the Author, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi acknowledged the visionary leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Deputy and his Wife for demonstrating the political will to fight the menace of sexual and gender-based violence, and for believing in the vision of making Lagos State free from the menace.

The Executive Secretary further lauded the leadership of the State for using their good offices to ensure certain barriers were overcome and giant strides attained in just about two years due to a genuine interest in a worthy cause.
