Zakharova says Russia alarmed by new aggravation of the situation in Kosovo
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow is monitoring the development of the situation in Kosovo around the clock.
Russia is alarmed by the new escalation in Kosovo and is monitoring the development of the situation around the clock. This is stated in the comments of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, distributed on Monday.
“We are alarmed by the new aggravation of the situation in the Serbian region. We are monitoring its development literally around the clock, especially after a series of provocations that, with the connivance of the United States and the European Union, were undertaken by the “authorities” in Pristina, who have taken a course towards tougher repressions against Serbs in Kosovo, the use of direct ethnically motivated violence,” the diplomat noted.
According to Zakharova, Russia will continue to help Serbia defend its legitimate national interests in relation to the situation in Kosovo.
“We will continue to help Belgrade defend the legitimate national interests in relation to Kosovo based on Security Council Resolution 1244, which remains in effect without any exceptions and provides a real chance to work out a balanced, fair solution to the Kosovo problem, in line with international law,” she stressed.
Zakharova noted that the inability of the European Union to influence the authorities of the unrecognized Kosovo is another resounding failure of Brussels’ mediation in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
“There is another deafening failure of EU mediation in the stalled dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina,” she stressed. “The last illusions about the ability of the EU to reason with Kosovo Albanian figures, who openly dismiss any advice and actually dictate their rules to others, are being dispelled.”
