[Volleyball] Lazar snags NAIA All-American honor & AVCA All-Region award
Lexington, Ky. – Friends University volleyball MH/RS Sarah Lazar continues to collect accolades to her historic senior season by being selected as an NAIA All-America honorable-mention selection and also being named to the America Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) WestCentral Region team, both organizations have announced.
A player that will go down in the lore of Friends University volleyball history, Lazar set the school's all-time kills (1357) and blocks (494) record this season.
Lazar was named KCAC Volleyball Player of the Year and was a first-team all-conference performer after pacing the league in kills (492), kills per set (4.24) and hitting percentage (.374).
"We couldn't be more proud of Sarah and her accomplishments as a member of our Falcon volleyball program," said Friends Volleyball head coach Martin Ayin. "Sarah being voted as an NAIA All-American and AVCA All-Region performer is an awesome achievement that is in addition to her earning KCAC Player of the Year and first-team All-KCAC."
The Rose Hill, Kan. native also ranked second in the KCAC in blocks per set (1.13) and her hitting percentage was third in the NAIA.
Lazar finished the 2022 season with a match-high 20 kills in the Falcons' KCAC quarterfinal setback to (RV) Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
The epitome of a student-athlete, Lazar is a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree while earning both NAIA and KCAC Scholar-Athlete recognition.
"This season is the pinnacle of a stellar career, and her value as a player and teammate has been greatly appreciated and will be missed," said Ayin.
