This column is about the recent trade of the U.S. basketball player Brittney Griner, held in Russia for what was a minor prohibited offense, for the Russian spy, Viktor Bout. It is also about how the Republican Party uses the trade, rather than as a focus of celebration for getting Ms. Griner home, as an opportunity to fully, openly and clearly express its basic racism, homophobia, and anti-feminism, over and over again.
