Naga Munchetty slammed for ‘interrupting’ BBC Breakfast guest in ‘poor’ nursing strikes interview
NAGA Munchetty has been slammed by BBC Breakfast viewers for ‘interrupting’ a guest.
The flagship BBC programme was covering the nursing strike, which is taking place today.
Presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were bringing viewers the latest updates.
Health Minister Maria Caulfield joined the show and was interviewed by Naga.
The 47-year-old began by asking the MP if she empathised with her fellow nurses on the picket lines.
“It is with regret that we’re seeing in England 44 of the 215 trusts going on strike today,” she replied.
She continued: “Of course, we understand that the pay is an issue. That is why last year the government gave nurses a three percent pay rise and this year, accepted the new body’s recommendations of 4.8 percent for the majority of nurses and then over nine percent for those on the lowest band.
“I recognise that pay is the issue but also other working conditions such as long hours, no fixed steady leave that in the same way that doctors do.”
Naga followed up by asking the minister what would be a “reasonable” request by the nurses.
“That’s why we set up the Independent Pay Review body which looks at a number of factors…”
However, Naga interrupted her and said: “Which has only offered three percent.”
She added: “Why you’re not engaging. Why is the government not engaging with the RCN on pay?”
Viewers at home were left unimpressed by Naga’s interviewing style and took to social media to complain.
The accused the broadcaster of continuous “interruptions”.
“More like interrogates, without a chance to answer before being interrupted,” said one viewer.
Another said: “@BBCBreakfast why oh why does Naga interrupt every time she asks a question, it’s sooo annoying.”
“Naga is a poor presenter with poor questioning techniques,” slammed a third viewer. “Always going for sensationalism rather than a balanced interview. Maybe that’s just the BBC news?”
BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One and iPlayer.
