On December 6, 2022, the newspaper published a column critical of the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights for using the term “POLY” as a promotional code for the sale of clothing and other items. The CCFR has advised the newspaper that the use of “POLY” as a promotional code was not meant to reference the mass shooting at École Polytechnique, but was instead a reference to the Twitter account @PolySeSouvient it says has been critical of it and gun owners. The newspaper retracts statements in the column indicating that the CCFR’s use of the promotional code was meant to refer directly to the shootings at École Polytechnique or was meant to make fun of the shootings and apologizes for these statements.
