The opposition parties have claimed that the detention of MES (a political body of Marathi speaking people in Belgaum meant for the unification of border areas like Belgaum which is in Karnataka with Maharashtra) and the NCP workers was contrary to the assurance given by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah last week.
