Leeds United Chat • Heidi's blog Leeds United v Monaco 21st December 2022 at Elland Road (friendly)
I want to apologise to anyone who had their photos taken by me either yesterday at the Open Training Session or at the friendly game tonight because due to a malfunction with the SD card, sadly I lost the majority of the photos I’d taken. Hopefully I will see people again soon and can take some more.
Team: Klaesson, Ayling, Kristensen, Aaronson, Roca, Gelhardt, Gnonto, Koch, Greenwood, Forshaw and Struijk.
Subs: Llorente for Koch (45), Joseph for Forshaw (62), Firpo for Kristensen (67), Gyabi for Aaronson (80), Hjelde for Struijk (80).
Leeds lost the game 4-2 with Koch (12) and Gelhardt (penalty 90) the scorers.
Referee: Andy Madley.
Attendance: 20,978.
The game kicked off five minutes late due to the late arrival of the Monaco team. Leeds took an early lead before Monaco equalised 13 minutes later. Although it was a practice match as such, and despite Leeds coming close a couple of times, there weren’t too many chances for either team as went in level at the break.
With Llorente on for Koch, the second half saw Monaco score three goals in quick succession within the open nine minutes. We were wide open at times and were taken to the cleaners as they made it look so easy. Despite Gnonto looking bright, I was worried when he went down injured a couple of times plus, I wanted him to be taken off as a precaution, but he stayed on for the 90 minutes. With Gelhardt scoring from a penalty in the 90th minute, I was glad when the final whistle blew. As a warmup before getting back to league action against Man City next week, it wasn’t good to see and doesn’t bode well. However, I’ll remain positive in the meantime and hope our injury situation has improved by the time we play them. See you then, LUFC – Marching on Together with Follow Me and Leeds
United.
