A Private Members' Bill on Uniform Civil Code was moved by BJP member Kirori Lal Meena in the Rajya Sabha amid protests by the Opposition which alleged that the government is "testing the waters" on the issue. A Private Members' Bill can become law only if the government endorses it. Meena had listed this Bill several sessions back but was found absent on at least six occasions when his name was announced for moving it.
