Boxing Day was named during Queen Victoria's rule in the 1800s and has nothing to do with sports. The name comes from a time when the wealthy would package gifts to give to the poor. Boxing Day was traditionally a holiday for servants, on which they received a special Christmas box from their masters. On Boxing Day, the servants would also return home to give their families Christmas boxes.
