Nearly 100,000 without power as weather worsens in region

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As a winter storm sweeps into Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington, the number of people without power in the region keeps going up Tuesday morning.

Thousands of people in the metro area, Willamette Valley, Oregon Coast, and Southern Oregon are without power.

According to the PGE website, as of 10:45 a.m., more than 68,000 customers don't have service. Most of the outages are concentrated along the Interstate 5 corridor. PGE is reporting outages as far west as Grand Ronde and as far east as Mount Hood Village.

As of 11:30 a.m., Pacific Power says it is dealing with more than 34,000 customers who don't have power. On the Northern Oregon Coast there are roughly 5,800 and nearly 7,100 in the Salem and Corvallis areas. Pacific Power customers in Southern Oregon aren't much better off. More than 18,000 outages are being reported in the Medford, Coos Bay, and Cave Junction areas. Pacific Power is also reporting more than 2,500 outages in Northeastern Oregon.

Clark Public Utilities, which serves the Clark County area in Washington state, lists 4,400 customers are without electricity as of 10 a.m. CPU says it has successfully restored service to almost 11,000 customers in the last several hours.

On the Oregon Coast, Tillamook People’s Utility District has made progress getting service restored. At last check, more than 1,500 customers were still without service. That's down from nearly 5,000 earlier Tuesday morning.
