Soccer Legend Pele Dead at 82 Following Cancer Diagnosis
Pelé, the Brazilian soccer legend, has sadly passed away at the age of 82.
The news was confirmed to the AP by the star’s manager Joe Fraga, and his death comes following a colon cancer diagnosis that Pelé has been treating since September 2021.
He spent some time in the hospital late last year, and his daughter confirmed that he was hospitalized again this November.

“There is no emergency or new dire prediction. I will be there for New Years and promise to post some pictures. Really and truly, we appreciate the concern and love,” his daughter Kely Nascimento wrote at the time.
According to the New York Post, the star was also undergoing treatment for “kidney and cardiac dysfunctions” earlier this week.
Pelé has three World Cup titles to his name with his first in 1958 and his final in 1970. He holds Brazil’s record for goals scored, having scored 77 across 92 games.
