Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa designated to return from IR
COSTA MESA — Joey Bosa returned to the Chargers’ practice field Thursday after sitting out since undergoing groin surgery in September.
Bosa, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, was designated to return from injured reserve, clearing his way to practice and play for the first time since Week 3.
A rotating cast of players replaced Bosa at his edge rusher position, including Chris Rumph II and Kyle Van Noy. Bosa was injured during the Chargers’ loss Sept. 25 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chargers’ initial estimate was that he would return to the team before season’s end.
The playoff-bound Chargers (9-6) play host to the Rams (5-10) on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, their second-to-last regular-season game. It wasn’t immediately certain whether Bosa would be sound enough to play against the Rams or in the regular-season finale against the Denver Broncos.
